Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm

Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm

  Client: Boskalis

  Location: North Sea

  Year executed: 2018

Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Ltd., a subsidiary of Vattenfall AB, developed the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm (AOWF), also known as European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC).

The wind farm is located approximately 2.4km off the coastline of Aberdeenshire at Blackdog, on the North-East coast of Scotland. The water depth across the site is between 19m and 32m below LAT.

Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm consists of eleven three-bladed horizontal-axis 8.4MW offshore wind turbine generators (WTG) each supported by a Suction Bucket Jacket (SBJ) also referred to as Foundation. Boskalis was responsible for the full construction scope of the project, SPT Offshore executed the suction installation of the Sucion Bucket Jackets. This included the detailed design and installation of 33 suction pile foundations for the foundation of eleven (11) suction bucket jackets. The jackets support the world’s largest 8.4MW Vestas wind turbines. The use of suction bucket jacket foundations in conjunction with the very large wind turbines and the use of high capacity 66kV power cables makes this project unique.
